Today while Fishing on Saginaw Bay it was pretty rough 3-6ft waves when I heard my trim motor running constantly. I pressed trim on the gear shift and it wouldn't go up or down, just made a different sound, I pressed trim onthe cowling and same result. A few minutes later as were packing up to go due to our problem I popped a rodholder out kinda forcefully and it stopped. And was fine. The only thing I can think of is that the waves got the manual switch wet on the cowling.
Anyone hear of such a thing.
REW this one is for you??????????
Thanks in advance Dan
I know exactly what it is, as we had it happen on our 150efi. Moisture (ours usually happened on very hot, humid days) gets into the switch/relay and activates it. We brought it back to dealer and they said nothing was wrong but evenetually replaced a relay (very easy to do and cheap) but it sprung up again.
Do yourself a favor and have the whole trim switch replaced right now before it ruins more trips. Don't even bother fixing the relay, because there is a bigger reason of why moisture is getting in there.
It is most likely only the trim switch on the motor. I now carry an extra one, just in case :) I'll proably never need it, but it is an ugly problem that can be fixed so easily. Call your dealer today to get one! They are cheap at under $25 if i recall correctly.
Good luck!

Thanks Box, I'll show your reply to the dealer so He doesn't think I'm in left field.

I had a similar thing happen after an all-day trip in some big water. I've never had trouble with the trim before or after, but last fall after bringing it into load--trim working fine the entire time--it wouldn't trim up. The boat was loaded and neither trim switch did a thing. After a few frustrating minutes trying to figure it out, it started working again and has worked flawlessly ever since.
Same relay?? Motor is a Yamaha ProV 200.
