The citizens advisory committee that was put together to study the bag limits for Minnesota has made their recommendations to the DNR.
Here they are:
Walleyes.....from 6 to 5
crappies.....from 15 to 10
sunfish/bluegill..from 30 to 20
trout........from 3 to 2 and no stream trout kept between 12 and 16 inches.
Northerns......stay the same except only one over 30 inches "in possession"
So, it looks like we are going to see some changes.

Hard to argue with any of those, although I'd have liked to see a 15-21-inch-slot/one-over-26-inches on walleye.
Wonder if they recommended any changes in bass harvest limits?

Although I am big advocate of slot limits on particular bodies of water, I don't believe they can be applied on a statewide basis. In Minnesota, many lakes, particularily in the SW portion of the state, have walleyes solely as a result of stocking. There is very little, if any, natural reproduction occuring in those lakes, and a slot limit would have no effect.
Regards
Good point, although I'd like to see a minimum size limit. Gripes me to see limits of 14" cigars leaving the lake.

Hans -- those limits of little guys are good on lakes such as Leech, where the 13, 14, 15 inchers are really nothing but forage anyway. It's the 18 and up walleyes I'd like to see returned, as they are the breeders.
I assume these suggestions are general, and that individual lakes will still be managed for unusual situations. For example, Detroit Lake a few years ago had a high limit on northerns because they wanted to reduce the small northern population -- haven't been there lately, so don't know how it worked out.

why not try and make every MN lake a "trophy" lake? one over 28" on all lakes would be a good start. maybe even have limit of five under 24" and only one over 28". seems those 4 - 8 pounders deserve to live and breed IMO. I would reduce it to even 22" but i know that would never fly.

I think they should relax the limits.. Make the limit 12 walleyes per day.. If you are good enough to catch em you should be able to eat em...

14 inchers are the perfect size. I would be upset if I couldn't keep those. They're easy to clean, fit in the pan right and are the right thickness. Given a choice between a 14 and 18 I'd take the 14 home every time if I was keeping fish. What kind of minimum size would some of you purpose? I say nothing higher than 14.
