View Full Version : Vent Plugs In Mercury Stainless Props
I have a Lund Pro V 1900 SE with a Mercury 200HP EFI on it, the prop is a 21 pitch Laser II. The prop came with 3 plugs with holes in them, I'm not sure which size holes. I bought a set of the solid plugs and was wondering if anyone has tried changing these plugs? Will mixing solid plugs and plugs with holes make any difference? should I switch to all solid plugs? Do these plugs do any thing to hurt or help top end speed or do they only effect the hole shot?
Thanks PJ

I had the same prop last year and experienced some cavitation when decelerating down to slow cruise speeds with the plugs with the biggest holes in them. I tried the solid plugs, and the cavitation disappeared, and hole shot was still good enough for a walleye boat.
I ran the solid plugs in a 21 Laser II with my 150. Holeshot never was a problem, so I did not care about the solid plugs. However, the solid plugs did allow the prop to hook up earlier, and I could get on plane at about 500 rpm less than with the plugs. This helped to keep the boat on plane when running through very choppy water (low speed).
