On a 1998 Merc 115 ELPTO, I've got a little tilt/trim fluid that has leaked out. Just to make sure, it is red right?

The tilt/trim still works and nothing is getting warm. What causes it to leak out? Should I add a little fluid and keep an eye on it or should I take it to the shop?

Thanks

Take it to a Mercury mechanic. I replaced mine on a Merc 115 several years ago and cost was around $800. The fluid is usually red because it often is transmission fluid that is used. Maybe you have caught it before it fails and a small repair can be made before it needs complete replacement.

The fill cap was loose and leaking. Duh!

All is well in Starcraft land.
