With a small engine like this does the prop make a big difference? Mine is a 1995 25hp 2-stroker and i have been using the stock prop since i got it, seems to work fine. I would like to do some experamentation though, what should I look for in a prop for this out board? should I bother with other props?
As always, your input is appriciated.
I have found with this motor that the stock 13 pitch prop works real good for up to, two people in the boat. After that if you go with three in the boat go with the 11 pitch.I have a 14 ft. lunker v-14 ltd alumacraft with the same motor 1995.I run top end with a fully loaded boat and just me at about 28.5 mph.Hope this helps you out.

If you haven't already, raising the motor one or two holes to get the cavitation plate more level to the bottom of the boat can usually increase performance. I have a 30 HP that I currently use three factory props depending on what I'm doing that day. 13 pitch if it's just me in the boat, 12 for another person, 11 for a full load or towing a tube. I'll soon be adding a hydrofoil to resolve a bow lift and porposing problem. If you really want to go crazy, take the motor to a racing shop to have it blueprinted and add performance reeds :)

Thanks for the tips...both of you guys.
Adam,
The hole positioning you mentioned...currently set in what i think is refered to as the first hole, the one closest to the transom, your saying if I move it up a notch or two I may see improved performance? will that help eliminate bow lift from the hole shot? I'm not looking for crazy speed here, just want to start to learn some different ways of doing things.
thanks again for your educated input!!
Moving the pin further from the transom will create more bow lift out of the hole (will take longer to get on plane). It will also give you more top end speed. You almost have to get a feel for it because it can also cause the motor to want to pull to the right or left (I forget which way it causes the motor to pull), but if trimmed up too far, it will cause the boat to porpose. This is especially true with one person in the boat. Get another person up front and it may not be a problem. Good luck. Link
