I want a simple reliable GPS that I can use to find my way back on a Canadian lake fishing trip, but I would like to also use it elk hunting in timber. I understand that some are better than others for locking onto satelites in timber. I am considering Magellan 315 vs Garmin GPS 12. Right now I am leaning toward the Garmin. Any suggestions? Thanks alot.

I bought a Garmin 12 before I went out elk hunting in New Mexico
in 1999, Have used it since to mark ice fishing spots, deer stands and other places since, has preformed flawlessly for me,
Just my two cents.

I have been using the Garmin 12 on Lake Erie for the last two years. I use it to mark fishing spots and I now consider it a necessity each time I go out fishing! Just remember to take extra batteries! Although I have never tried any other GPS units, the Garmin GPS12 is very reliable and simple to use. You may be able to find a new Garmin 12 on eBay at a cheaper price than at your local store. You may want to check it out. I hope this has helped.
