The other day I had tilted up my motor above the trim posts and noticed that the Tilt cylinder (center) was very slowly going down. I put the motor down and up about 20 times and I could not make this happen again, it stays exactly wherever I tilt/trim it to.

Any ideas? The local Yamaha rep suggested that this may just be a sticky slow release valve.

I have a Yamaha Pro60 (3yrs old).

I had the same problem on a 115 Evinrude tilt/trim,if I put the motor up,the next morning it would be down. The dealer opened up the valve and there was a metal shaving from the factory keeping it from opening/closing.This might be somewhere to start.

I have the same issue with my Yamaha 225 Saltwater Series. It will "settle" if I tilt it up slightly past the trim position as you were describing. As yours, mine is also an intermittent issue. I am going to take it to the dealer and have the cylinder checked out.
