View Full Version : Question on Panther 35 Aux. Motor Lift

Greased

I've got a Panther lIft - Model 35 on my boat. During spring maintenance I greased the motor housing as described in the manual. I pumped an awful lot of grease (1/3 of a tube) into the thing before it started to ooze out around the cap on the end opposite the zirk. Made me wonder if it had been empty since I bought it. When I ran it up and down after pumping in the grease, I noticed it was a lot quieter, but slower as well, furthering my thought that it was empty all last year.

Does a Panther Lift motor come filled with grease or is that something the installer should do? If it was empty all last year, could it have been damaged as a result? The manual didn't say what kind of grease to use so I just used plain old grease. Is that OK?

Thanks.

Greased,

Panthers are all greased and tested before assembly. All that is needed for maintenance is 2-3 pumps of grease if the unit seems noisy. Excessive greasing is not neccessary nor good for the unit. The screw drive creates movement of grease along its length during operation. If you have any other questions feel free to call myself or BJ at Panther. We'll be happy to help you with any info you might need.

Eric:

Only 2-3 pumps! Oh my! I think mine is good for the next 20 years!

I'm sure the manual said to fill it until some cap popped off the other end. I pumped and pumped, but no cap ever popped off of my unit. I just decided to stop when the grease started oozing out from between the end cap and the motor housing. Guess I filled it up good, huh?

Was my interpretation of the manual wrong? Have I harmed my unit? Thanks.
