I am using several varieties of open face spinning reels that
vary from $40 to $150 but I still get line twist that delay my fishing. What can I do. What line type/weight should I use. When I buy a new reel Are there better models that eliminate/reduce line twist?

The two things that I have done to reduce line twist to a minimal are:

1. Make sure I put the line on properly. By that I mean crank a few turns, let slack in the line and if it curls, I'll flip the line spool over.

2. I spray a silicone lubricant on all my spools. This helps reduce twist and improves casting distance. They make special stuff for reels (Reel Magic?), but I have good luck with regular hardware store brand silicone.

If you are using berkley line they have directions in every box that states you should lay the spool flat on floor and reel in line snuggly on the reel and flip the spool over a couple of times until you have enough line on the reel.
for a levelwind if you don't have a line spooler have someone hold a pen through the hole in the spool and keep tention on it reel it straight off. Hope that helps but like most things if all else fails read the directions. Good luck fishing.

The trick to solving a problem like this is to think about it. What is causing the line to twist? Those twists didn't just mysteriously appear. Something caused those twists. Why are you getting line twist when other guys aren't? This might not be your problem but... If the fish is pulling drag, stop reeling. If you keep reeling as the fish is pulling out line and the drag is slipping, you will get line twist big time. Under these conditions, every time your bail goes around, you will put one twist in your line. It's a kid's thing but I've seen some grown men get excited and keep reeling like mad men as the fish is pulling drag. It's funny to watch, they get a look of determination on their face and just keep reeling like there is no tomorrow. 2. Your bait could be acting like a propellor and twisting your line. If this is the problem put a small swivel in your line about a foot above your jig. TO GET THE TWIST OUT OF YOUR LINE.. Run the entire length of your bare line out behind your boat. Troll along for a while and the waves will knock all the twists out of it. I'm betting that after reading this you will have no more problems.
