Sue,

I hooked up my 2613 this weekend and when connecting the batteries to the charger, I got sparks at the terminals for the trolling batteries only. The unit was not plugged in nor are there any shorts in the lines and the connections are correct.

Also, when I plug the unit in with one starting(S) battery and 2 trolling(T1, T2) batteries the red and green lights on the T batteries stay on while the green light for the S battery flashes on and off slowly.

After about 3 minutes T1 began to hiss from the charge it was receiving and I shut the system down. An ampmeter determined that these out put was correct (5A), but I have never hissed a battery yet, even with the big 30A charger.

BTW, all three batteries were fully charged prior to hooking them up.

Is there something wrong with the unit? It is used, but in excellent shape and I want to be sure before I continue.

Aquaman, I have the Guest 2623. I've never heard any of my batteries hiss during charging. However, my green indicator light on my charger for the starting battery slowly flashes on/off as well like yours. This is normal I believe, however, the hissing seems out of sorts. I'm glad I could be of very little help ;-).

Best Regards,

FJH

LOL, yeah, you were actually a great help. At least I know the S battery charger portion is working correctly. Now to figure out if the T1 and T2 connections are working properly.

Reading the manual, it does not indicate whether both the red and green lights indicate correct or incorrect opperation.

Anyone else know?

On my 2631 the unit is charging if both the red and green lights are on. When it is done the red lights go off. Hope this helps. Fred

Aquaman,

The hissing sound is not good. It means either a problem with the charger or the batteries. Test the output of the charger by disconnecting it from the trolling batteries and testing the open circuit voltage. You should get 13.3 to 13.5 volts DC with just the green light on. If you do, then do a load test on the batteries to be certain that there isn't a bad cell causing the charger to stay in the absorption mode. If everything seems to test good, give me a call at Guest at 1-888-483-7865 extension 135.

Have a great day!
