View Full Version : 90 hp 4 stroke tiller
I have a 2001 90 hp 4 stroke tiller on a 1800 pro v. What prop are people using. I have a 16 pitch prop on, and these are the results. 36 - 38 mph wot - gps, 5200 rpm. I feel I should be able to get more out of this motor. What are peoples opinions, experiences?
I have a 2000 1800 Pro-V tiller with a 90 Honda & 15" prop. I'm only getting 35.2 mph on the GPS with 24V trolling motor/batteries and 1/2 tank gas. I was told that 37-38 mph would probably be top end for this rig. I haven't got that fast yet.
I have an 1800 Pro-V with a F80 Yamaha and a 17 pitch Yamaha aluminum prop. I get a max of 34.5 mph (gps)at 6000 rpm. Three guys and normal gear, 31.5 mph is all it will do. A 15 pitch prop puts me way over max rpm's of 6000. Although, I suspect that the setting on my tach is wrong. I really can't see that motor turning a 17 pitch at +6000 on that size boat. I'm getting it checked out next week.
Buzz,
How do you like that 80 on that 1800? Does it get on plane okay or is it a real dog? I wished Yamaha made a 90 four stroke.
Thanks for any info.

Overall I really like it. I went from a 1775 Pro V with a 60hp Yamaha two-stroke to the 1800. The first prop I had was a 15 pitch and the boat just jumped out of the hole. The 17 pitch is alittle slower but still very acceptable even with a load.
The boat handles like a dream. No steering torque, even trimmed all the way down. I don't have to play with the trim like I had to with my old boat. I think the IPS hull has alot to do with that.
The one thing I was disappointed in was I thought I'd get alittle more speed out of it. A stainless prop would certainly give me alittle more, I just don't know if the expense is justified for an extra 1-3mph.
Overall, the motor is super quiet, no more fumes to suck and I'm not heading to the gas pump all the time. E-mail me if you want to know anything else.......Buzz
