Have read several posts mentioning the road bed at chatfield. In general where is it located, and what depth is the roadbed?
Thanks!

Eric/CO can tell you exactly where it is, we clobbered the eye's almost every time out last summer. We couldn't find any big fish, but Eric caught three or four over 20 inchs and hundreds under the slot.

Neal you guys like to hit it at evening and kinda at night right? We got an outboard finally and are thinking about trying Chatfield from somewhere besides the #####. Since its a roadbed and at the base of the rip rap would it be safe to assume you guys jig and bounce it?

We were mostly rigging with crawlers. We would fish in the morning until the pleasure boaters would run us off usually around about 11:00 AM.

That makes sense. I have always wondered when would be the best time to hit it from a boat. Walking the dam the hot times were 1 AM and somewhere between 3 and 9 PM but honestly I never tried it in the morning. I'll have to try the morning sometime this summer. Thanks for the info.

Was out this weekend at chatfield and boated one keeper off the roadbed. Caught about a dozen smaller fish. The 17.5 inch walleyes are abundant (thought they would've grown up from last year). Although they are under the slot, they sure are fat. Caught all of them on a spinner with bouncer. The bite really started to slow down on Monday. Best bite was on Sunday (right after the cold front left . . . Go figure!)
The roadbed runs southwest to northwest. The northwest end is pretty much right where that handicap fishing pier is just west of the marina. With water levels a litte high I was marking it in about 17 - 19 feet below the transducer.
