No not what you think. Been follwing some posts on engine propping and hieght. Finally starting to get some hours on my ride so I have been tinkering with fine tuning the prop and engine hieght.I think I got my prop set up the way I need it to be by having some additional cupping done. The boat I have is Mr Pike 17 w/Yamy F115 turning a turbo 19" at 5600rpm and 44 full load gps in a chop. Now I am trying to decide whether or not I should raise the engine? I have 4 holes vs Mercs 5 holes, I now have it in the 2nd one up which put s cavition plate just above the bottom when a straight edge is placed on the bottom, if I go to third one it puts the plate about 1" above the bottom and the water intake 1/2 to 3/4 below the bottom of the boat and if in the 3rd my prop shaft is 3" below the bottom. Do I dare go to third hole with tthe intake that close to top?I guess I would rather not install pressure gauge. Also what about rough water and prop slippage?

Thanks for the info and good luck moreyes

Got a '99 Mr. Pike 17, with a '99 Merc 125. This rig needs to have the cav plate at or below the bottom of the hull, when using the straightedge method. I raised mine to the 3rd hole, which put the cav plate .75" above the hull, and I lost 7 MPH, from when it was mounted in the top hole. Each hole moves the motor .75" up/down. Currently in the 2nd hole down, p/u 3 mph, but still 4 mph less than what I got from the top mounting hole setting. 2nd hole puts the cav plate dead even with the bottom of the hull. Good Luck!! Gregory
