View Full Version : L750 transducer location

I have installed a Raytheon L750 on a new boat (fiberglass). The users manual indicates to mount the transducer so that it is 1/8 to 1/4 inch below the hull bottom. The hull is a v-bottom. I mounted the transducer so that the center of the transducer was 1/4 inch below the hull. The side of the transducer towards the center of the hull was at or slightly above the hull bottom in this location.

With this location I lose bottom reading once I hit around 25-30 MPH. Couldn't find a consistent pattern; sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

My thinking is there are two possible problems:

1) Transducer too high. I will move the transducer down so that the highest side of the transucer (relative to the bottom of the boat) is 1/4 inch below the hull.

2) I need to angle the back of the transducer down so that the back is angled lower than the front more than it currenly is. Raytheon provides a wedge to do this. I will try 1) before trying this.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Your observations are correct , I've got the same unit. I did
a little tweaking on the water and found the "sweet spot"
It won't take long to lower and re-angle the transducer.
When you get it - you will be very pleased. The performance
of the unit is fantastic - runnin' or fishin'
easy use , easy to read , flexible , excellent resolution
custom screen set-ups and rock solid reliability -IT WORKS !
Couple hours on the water with it and you will be comfortable
with most all of the capabilities of the unit. My buddies
will verify that I'm an electronic gizmo idiot (BWS , PHM )
"I can rig it but can't run it" - Not so with the Ray L750.

P.S.- Pair it with the Raytheon 425 WAAS GPS Chart plotter
and the many 'NAVIONICS' maps and you will crush
the competion ie. Lowrance x-15MT (BWS chuckle)
Nearly the same money for the two as one non-working
download this patch , upgrade that , Lowrance unit .
