I'm looking at buying a 21 ft fiberglass boat and was wondering what it the better of the two engines -- the Yam HPDI or Optimax in the 225 class?

I can't give you my experiences since I have never owned a Yamaha or Optimax in the 225 range. What I can tell you is that Merc has been experiencing some problems with their 200/225 series Optimax. From my understanding you may have to wait quite some time to get a new one. I have never seen a negative post regarding Yamaha on this website. Taking these facts into consideration, the next rig I am looking at is a Triton 205 with a 200 VMAX HPDI on the back. Good luck with whichever choice you make.

My 2002 Optimax 225 has 8 hours on it and is running perfectly...just like my other Opti's.
