I have a 150 Optimax on my 1800 PRO-V, I'm currently running a 19 pitch Lazer II and getting 47-50 depending upon the load (it's o.k. but the bow lift could be better and it tends to blowout while cornering), I want to try a 19 pitch Tempest, but I can't find a dealer who has one in stock and all of the dealers I've called say once they order me one I own it. I want to test it before I crack out $400-$500

Does anyone know of a dealer in Minnesota that will let you try before you buy? and might have a prop in stock?

I have tested the Tempest and it great prop but but there are thing to consider. What is the load in your boat gas, livewell, gear, and people? What kind of rpm are you turning under load? The thing about the Lazer prop is it designed for bass boats with lighter front ends and the 1800 Pro V has a heavy front end so you need a prop with more rake and blade cupping for lift. The Tempest has that, but you might have to raise the motor up on the transom because you can with larger diameter props. Myself, I test propeller at midrange rpm also and when I tested the Lazer at 3000 rpm my 2025 went 22mph and the Tempest went about 29 mph with more bow lift. Miksup, a guy that posts alot on Walleye central likes the 4 blade Trophy prop wich will give you good bow lift and you can mount your engine higher for better performance. Did you check Nelson Marine for a 19p Tempest, they had one in stock about 2 weeks ago.

Mercury has a prop testing program. Check there website for dealers in your area that belong to this, and contact one of them. Hope you can find one as this really helps to get a boat/motor combo running right. As far as your dealer goes, sounds like a no service after the sale type dealership. I hope you have good luck down the road with them...

If you live in the Twin Cities area, check with Supreme Motors on Washington Ave No. just north of Lowry Ave. By the way, you're not going to find a dealer anywhere that can get you a Tempest 19 inch. They don't make such an animal. 21 inch is the smallest Tempest made. My suggestion would be a small hub Trophy plus 19 inch. Supreme will help you out. You're right about the prices. But if you want to play the game, try their demo's and then call Reynolds Performance Marine. Their number can be found on the Bass Fishing home page. About 380 delivered to your door.

Look at Mercury's website under props and they do make a 19p Tempest. Also I tested one several weeks ago and so they do make it.

Okay, I believe. In that case Merc's 2000-2001 propeller guide that I have in front of me is wrong. It clearly states Tempest, 21-29 inch pitch. Maybe they started making them after this book was printed or, god forbid, someone made a mistake on the prop guide. Thanks for putting us all straight.
