I just purchased a new outboard motor.I do all of my fishing and boating up on MilleLacs and Leech but would like to get some hours on the new motor before opener.I live in the northwestern suburbs of the Twin cities.Any suggestions on local lakes in this area that are somewhat uncrowded, and have a good ramp and dock that make it easy to load and unload by yourself with good lake depth so I don't have to worry about trashing a prop on an unfamiliar body of water.

How about Lake Minnetonka that has to be fairly close. I don't bass fish and it's a girl watching lake but it's to early for either. But you could get some hours on that motor.

Medicine Lake has a great launch site and is big enough to run around for a couple hours putting some time on your rig without the shallow reefs of other nearby lakes.
Good luck,

It's been a long time since I lived up there but Long Lake in New Brighton and Coon Lake near East Bethel are places I used to go for shake down runs. Both had good ramps but I think Long Lake may have some HP restrictions. Like only so many boats above X HP are allowed and so many between X and Y HP, etc.

Waconia is a 3000 acre lake, easy to read, and with pretty decent ramps. (One on south side in town, another on the east side.)

Medicine Lake is close and has a good ramp. As far as crowds, go during the early AM and avoid them.

Medicine Lake was my first choice,I won't be going back.Every time I go there its like amatuer day at the boat ramp(it is good for a laugh though). Its hard to launch there by yourself(especially with a bunk trailer) its very shallow(about 1 1/2-2 feet for about 125 yards(banged up a prop there last season).Scratched the hull up on there dock,be carefull of nail and bolt heads sticking out.Has anyone launched at hardys boat rentals? It would be worth it to pay and avoid the lines.

Long Lake in New Brighton would be an excellent choice, nice ramp, no reefs, etc. but unfortunately it is currently closed throttle only, due to high water. Looks like at least a week before water levels will be low enough to remove the restriction.
I would suggest Minnetonka, lots of nice houses to look at and the reefs are well marked. Plenty of room to wander around without going in a continuos circle.
Good luck.
