This is a question for the night fisherman. What is your favorite bait? I have had great success with Rapala Husky #13 in the perch or shad colors. But it is my understanding that the Husky #13 has been discontinued.

For me, it has been the #5 shadrap in the crayfish pattern hands down over everything else I have tried. This has produced on every lake I have night fished on and there have been quite a few.
Good luck

For hand lining/trolling #9+11 rapalas in perch, firetiger, rng/gld. For casting 9 husky jerks, same colors, and my #1 night producer 1/4 ounce white jighead with the biggest white twister you can find, cast into 1-5 foot depths, retrieved back a foot under the surface. This is the only time ive seen a walleye jump! EXPLOSIVE STRIKES!!!

My favorite would have to be a leech under a lighted slip bobber. But if we're aiming more at trolling, then I would go with a #14 husky jerk - gold.

Minnow/ stickbaits probably bombers for numbers, and for fun on those "hot nights" a buzzbait takes alot hits to get a limit but man oh man does the water fly, 3-4 pound walleye will chase and pop at it for yards, all the way to the boat. The closer the lure gets to the boat the less likely you are to hook anything but your self.

As far as the #13 Husky rap(not the Husky Jerk) being discontinued I don't know. But I still seem them in the stores. My favorites based on depth fish are at are Rattling Rogue(Fire Tiger) or #13 floating rap(Clown)2-5 ft, Thunderstick(perch, chartruese)or bomber long A(Crome)6-10ft. Conditions have a lot to do with color choice. My favorite dark rainy night lure is a #13 floating rap(Flor. Orange). Clear full moon night chrome or silver.

Casting from shore for night time walleyes on Lake Erie....hands down the #11 Countdown Rapala (blue back/silver belly). A close second would be the Husky Jerk.

Call me weird. Anchored on weedline casting a split-shotted NightCrawler harness with a big blade (Chartreuse). Maybe I'm missing the whole "body bait" thing?????

Without a doubt, on Erie the serious night guys use more Rip Sticks and Little Rippers than anything else. Husky Jerks and Rattlin Rouges are also used.

Van Dam minnow type lure, Husky Jerks, #11 Rapala floating or suspending minnow type lure in Black and Silver and Blue and Silver. I have had extreamely good luck this spring using Green, Chartruse and orange belly Reef Runners.

No question for big fish. I like a #12 Husky Jerk in Firetiger, but other colors have worked well too, silver and gold with the black back. Actually, very few colors haven't worked when you fish it properly. Vary your speeds and pause often for heart thumping strikes. Ok I have to stop now, I'm getting too excited. How much longer till October?

From the pier Huron or Lorain,it would have to be Husky Jerk#12 in the spring and #14 in the fall,in blue back and clown. From the boat it would have to be reef runner rip sticks, little rippers in blue back, firetiger, clown.

Nite bait? Take it from an way over the hill. Take the little woman out for supper and a drink, go back to the lodge and get in bed. Do it when you can and don't wait to long like I have. Viagra don't always work.

For water 10ft and less, nothing beats Smithwick Suspending Pro Rouge, and Mann's Loudmouth Jerkbait. Both trolled nice and sloooooow.

I've posted this here before, but slow trolling (long lining)a flatfish with nightcrawler strung off the back hooks works great. The wide wobble of the flatfish can handle the nightcrawlers without losing its action and the scent of crawlers seems to help. I use orange flatfish with black dots, but have used others and don't seem to think color at night is that important. Action and scent is where its at.

What size flatfish do you use? How deep do they dive? Sounds like a good idea!!
