I have a 84 90 jon alumacraft. Last trip at the ramp the motor would not trim up. The trim motor sounds the same it only trimed up 1/4 of the way. Its like the higher speed part of the cycle didnt kick in, had to lift it manually. I did notice a small leak around one of the rams this spring. I can only see one screw about midway on the housing, is this the fill hole? What kind of oil? This I have never serviced and it may haunt me. I know get a new boat, well I will when I move to MN.Tanks.

It sounds as though the motor is working fine, I believe you are just low on oil. The oil seal leaking on the cylinder is the culprit.

Hey Spampy!
Yes, that is the fill hole.
Almost all of them take just good old ATF (automatic transmission fluid)
You can squirt it in there with an oil can (one with a flexible tip).
You'll have to run it up and down several times and keep adding..as it bleeds off the excess air.
This is just a temporary fix if it is leaking.
You need to get that leak fixed.

Thanks for the info. I noticed the leak when I depress the trim for towing. Is a seal kit a job for a pro?
