There was a post a few weeks ago from somebody trying to find the LCG-1 5 channel GPS receiver. They aren't made anymore but I have been seeing some for sale on E-bay. As of this morning there was one up for bid. I bought one last week as a spare for the day mine dies. Lowrance informed me that it's $300.00 to upgrade my 350A 5-chnl to 12-chnl since they no longer support the 5-chnl. If I didn't have so much invested in the X70A and the GM2000 and like the large screens, I'd be looking for another brand.

If it were my decision I wouldn't worry about the upgrade. The 5 parallel channel receiver I ran on my 350a was very accurate. The biggest difference is that the 12 channel will track more satellites, it doesn't mean it will improve your accuracy. The more sat's that your GPS unit track's will reduce the odds of you losing a signal wherever you are at. The reason these units are getting hard to find is that many anglers recognize the value of this sonar/GPS, and are stockpiling them for future use, much the way you have. Good Luck

I sent my 5 channel for the 12 channel upgrade. Lowrance had quoted me a price of approximately $38. When I got my lms350a back there was a letter in the package stating that my unit somehow had moisture in it so they sent me a brand new at no extra charge. Lowrance has been very good to me.

How long ago was it that you upgraded that 5 channel for a 12 channel? I e-mailed Lowrance on 4/9/01 and got a reply on 5/2/01....slow ??? If your LCG-1 (5 chnl receiver) goes bad, you're outa luck !! They don't support that receiver any longer. That means you have to go to the newer 12 channel receiver. Problems again....the LCG-1 contained the receiver/antenna....the 12 chnl version has the receiver in the LMS350A. Now you're forced to upgrade the LMS350A to a version that supports it. 99% of the time you don't get your same unit back. They simply send you an updated version which leads to yet another problem....saving and re-entering all your waypoints and icons. The e-mail from Lowrance offered a "deal" of $300.00 to switch from 5 to 12 channel and an upgraded version of the 350 to support it. They also quoted $695.00 to trade completely for the X-15T combo. Bottom line.....no brand reference intended !!....better jump on a spare LCG-1 if you can find one. I'm not sure what happens if the LMS350A takes a dump. I haven't looked into the newer 350's working w/ the older LCG-1's. Don't know if they do or don't.

If lgc module goes south, try taking it apart. It is pressure fit and has a large O ring around the bottom.
Mine was full of water. Dried it out in front of wood stove this winter, put it back together without O ring as I could not reassemble as per original regardless how many times I tried.
used silicon to seal the bottom.

Yup, works fine and is as accurate as 12 channel. I have compared the two side by side in a boat and there is no reason to upgrade. Good luck

I more thing to pass along, even though they upgrade your unit to accept the 12 channel module ant. The unit still only operates on 5 channels. Just had it done and it cost $300.00

I sent my LMS350A in for upgrade 3-2000. They then sent the new unit back.
