Don't buy a Ford. I have a 2000 "Superduty" and have nothing but trouble with it. Now the latest, both doors are starting to rust out on the bottom, Ford and the dealer won't do a thing for me. GREAT customer service!!! The truck is only 22 months old for gosh sakes. Hope someone from Ford sees this. That is all I have to say, Happy Ford owners...start bashing...

I drove all four brands but ending up spending my money on the Silverado. So far 21,000 trouble free miles with no regrets.
My best buddy just got a new Silverado 2500 crew cab but for my money the Silverado 1500 crew cab would have been a better choice.

I have a 1999 f-250, I was told it has a 5 year- unlimted miles warranty against rust. You may want check with another dealer or write ford itself.

I have a 99 F250 Superduty with a glue box and a diesel that just turned over on 60,000 and had only one small problem with the cam position sensor. A 30 minute fix and back on the road with no problems. Plenty of pulling power and as far as I am concerned totally dependable.
On the other hand a lot of my friends drive GM's, mostly 1500 and if they pull anything often are usually in for a tranny between 30 and 40 K. My brother went to GM for their pickups and of the 6 the bought in 99 they put trannys in 5 of them. When GM took their tranny business away from Allison they really lost. They did get smart when they came out with their HD this year and went back to Allison. If they go back with their light duty trucks they may have something again.
As for a Dodge, take one down a rough road and you will quickly realize they are still making farming equipment.
That's all I got.
Later.

Well all I have ever owned has been Chevrolet, but I have driven many Fords and Dodge trucks. For interior layout and space, Chev leads in this category hands down. There is actually room in the back of a Chev extended cab for a mid size person. Check out their new 1500 HD crew cab of you want more space. I went to a 2001 HD Crew cab 4x4 and I love it. The crew cab allows better access and the rear seats fold down flat for a lot more storage room. The 5.3 from Chev is a very solid motor and it is pretty good on gas, if you don't put your foot down hard. The six liter (standard on 3/4 ton trucks) is a little harder on fuel but more than makes up for passing power with the boat, or when bucking a headwind. But then again, maybe it's just me! :-) Chris K

I have a 98 GMC 3/4 Ton extended cab turbo diesel 4x4. I like the truck. My last truck was a ford F150 and corrosion was a major problem. I replaced fuel tanks due to corrosion and an oil pan cover that rusted through. There should be a law against this type of thing.

FORD F250 CREW CAB DIESEL, FULL FRONT & REAR SEATS ( Leather ) - COLOR > GOLD ///// WHAT A MACHINE & WHAT A LOOK !! Lots of room front and back seats - pile in the gang with comfort / sleep in it - tow and use no extra fuel - power - 18 mpg + /// the bx is just short of 7' works fine ~~~~~~ drive one before making a decision.
Fuel prices may have us all roller skating. Drive one of these equiped same as said above ~~~~ will make you nuts. Ford stands behind their products - pick a good dealer. The rust thing - no rust, treated from head to foot ~~~~~ got rust, they will make it right - get above the Dealer. Haven't seen any early rust in years because of the process the metal goes through.

FRANK: All of the older Models rusted. and especially under certain conditions ( Driving through Salt Mines ). Ford uses processes now that's rust free for years. See FORD TRUCK Web Site.

You're leaning the right way, get the Chevy. I have a '98 Chevy Silverado, and never a problem with it.

With OMC down the tubes, at least we won't have the Johnson v. Mercury "contests" or the Evinrude v. Mercury grand claims comparisons.
Buy Ford or buy Chev or buy Dodge on the strength of best deal and best local dealer.

I've owned both Chevy and Ford. I presently have an F250 Diesel Crew Cab and would not exchange it for any other truck. Tons of power, room, sturdiness and reliability. Previously owned a Chevy 1500 Extended cab and I must admit, that was the best CAR I ever bought. Rode like a car, performed like a car, hauled like a car. Cannot speak to Dodges cause I have never owned one nor been in one for more than a few minutes. Of the two I have experience with, go with Ford.

I have drove them both. Hands down the Ford Super Duty with the 7.3 diesel is the way to go. Plenty of power, great fuel mileage. With the price of diesel 20 to 30 cents a gallon cheaper that also helps. Sure you pay more for the diesel, but you will get your money back out of it when it is time to trade. The 7.3 is a good, dependable, proven engine. Wouldn't have any other right now.

About 6 months ago, I bought a Dodge Ram 1500 with the 360. I had previously owned a Chevy. I liked my Chev fine, but decided to try out the Dodge. So far so good....the only thing I have to really gripe about is the gas mileage...I gave up some when I went to the Dodge. Other than that, I actually like the truck itself a little better than my Chevy...I think the ride is better, I feel it pulls my boat better, and I think the 4 wheel drive system is a little better, and I like the ride better. I heard just last week that the new Chevy's are getting around 22-24 mpg...if I would have known six months ago that the gas prices were going to go out of sight, I probably would have gone with the Chevy. But just like boats, the vehicle you drive is all personal preference. If it does what you want it to do you should be happy. For right now I am 99.9% pleased with the Dodge.
1978 CHEV - 287000 miles, 1988 CHEV 288000 miles, my current 1993 CHEV 140000 miles and still pulling a 17ft fiberglass boat. Personally the CHEV 350 has proven its self for years.

I had a 96 dodge and the doors started to rust out in 99 with 75K miles on it. Took it to Dodge in 99 and they replaced the door skins at no charge. I have to believe Ford would have the same type of thing?

With Fuel prices you may consider diesel. Me, 93 Dodge Cummins, 250,000kms, 25-30 mpg. Only one problem and that is the rough ride, but then again it is a 3/4 ton with 4X4. Other than tires and a battery thats all I have done. All three makes, Dodge, chey and ford make good reliable diesels. Check them out they are more $ but worth it.
Good luck
None of the manufacturers make junk. I feel it is a matter of personal preference and satisfaction with the dealership. A dealership with good after the sale service makes all the difference to me. I would ask friends about the service they have received at the dealerships you are considering and make your decision from there.
Good luck and have fun shopping.

Got a 96 Dodge 1500HD, tow package, and 360. Saw it driven off the car carrier. Put on 128K and have put in a new battery and I'm on the second set of tires. It tows nicely. I get 15 mpg pretty consistently. Love the truck. Looking at the newer GMC/Chevy trucks, I can see that the extended cabs have improved the room in the extension. I have 1 fishing partner with a Ford F250 and another with a Chevy 1500. Both friends swear by their trucks. There are a lot of good products out there. Find one that suits you, from a good dealer (good price), and take care of it.

Dodge all the way. I have a 2000 Dodge HO Diesel. It is incredible. The pulling power and the mileage is awesome(great with the difference in price of diesel and gas). Never had to plug it in this winter in SD.
But, I am getting another one, If you are looking for a great pickup mine is for sale. It has less than 16,000 miles on it and is loaded to the hilt. Reply if you are interested.
