I just got one offshore planer board tattle flag upgrade kits to try out. What is up with the clips? They have a little peg in the middle of the rubber that won't let the line release. Is it suppossed to be this way? Thanks for any info.

Steve,

These clips aren't suppose to release. When trolling for Walleye for example the board should stay in place so when the fish hits, it pulls the line, which in turn pulls the flag down. The advantage is in big waves and fast speeds the clips stay hooked up and you don't have to double wrap the lines around the clip.

Tattles are THE TICKET! Big or small fish, it doesn't matter. Many times big fish will hit the bait but swim with the lure, without the Tattles the board won't move. I used to look at a board and think " ... hmmm is that board running funny?... nawww it's just that I'm making a turn" yeah right!

Learn the spring positions for optimal sensitivity for each bait.

And I know the question will come up " can you run Reef Runners with the Tattles?" >>>Y E S!!! Set the spring in the lowest position on the front of the board and move the upper hook to the upper portion of the arm. Not in the hole but on the arm.

Hope this helps!

NOTE* there are also the new CAM RELEASES for the front release position. Used them on Erie... AWESOME!

The line is supposed to stay on the board. When a fish hits, it pulls the line back, thus pulling the flag down. Just reel in the board and unclip the line and continue to fight the fish. Make sure you leave enough slack between the two clips so that the flag will be pulled down.

SteveW,

I am from Bluewater Research, Inc. the company that holds the patents and manufacturers the OffShore Release. The new design with the center pin is to make the release work as a line holder. Which will prevent the line from releasing. This is an advantage with rough waves, fast speeds, big fish, or heavy snap weights.

With the tattle flag kits available from OffShore Tackle L.L.C. the modified Red clip with the center pin allows for the flag to work more effectively by not allowing as much play of the line between the pads, and prevents accidental line releasing from the pads which often results in a lost board, or lost fishing time.
