Got a set of 6 walleye diver lures from Cabella (their house brand). Came as a 'kit' which means I have to put the split rings and hooks on and I didn't order the split ring pliers. Before I send these back and order somewhere else (I was really looking for Wally Divers, close as I could find in either Cabella or Bass Pro catalogs), just wondering if any of you have experience catching 'eyes on this brand. It might be worth it to keep the set and get the durn pliers, the lures have a larger body than the wallys. Any opinions? thanks, m

I don't carry a split ring pliers with me when fishing. If I break a hook, I just pull out my pocket knife split the ring and thread the o'ring and eye together. It takes time, but it works. It would save the $ for a small amount of fixing, unless that is your plan for the future. The size of the lures in catalogs is sometimes deceiving. I bought what I now consider an oversized set of lures also from cabalas. I have caught a few northern but fewer walleyes. Good luck fishing.

I too just recently purchased this kit but did so because we had a good deal of success with these lures out of my buddies tackle box up at Lake Sakakawea. So I got myself a set. With the help of this board they pointed me in several directions on how to rig up the split rings and hooks. Best advice was to get the split ring pliers and keep it handy just in case ya want to change out or upgrade trebles on other cranks. Have not made it to the "big" lake yet but will soon and can't wait to put these cranks to the test behind planer boards and my line counters.

The money you saved in buying the kit could be used to buy the split ring pliers and the pliers has further uses down the road if you are a sincere enthusiast in pulling cranks. good luck fishing.

Yes, they work! I had great success last fall trolling them in 14-18ft. Give them a chance!

With a small knife, pliers, and two people we were able to get two of the lures hooked. Rings are small and that impeded progress. Now all I need is a lake and some fish! thanks, guys. m

Outstanding lure, have caught many a Walleye on these lures. I use them in all sizes. I would also recommend the new Wally Minnow, which just out in 2000. I used this lure with great success last year.:-) Go Fishing & Good Luck!

I've used knives/needles/forceps, you name it, for years to take off and put on split rings. Bought a cheap split ring pliers a couple of years ago and it is SO much easier. It is amazing how often I use it and it was well worth the small cost. The only thing I had to do was file the point a bit sharper so it would work better with small split rings.

Can someone give me a part number for these at Cabela's?

WM-11-4691 RealImage Walleye Runner Kit
WM-11-2005 Walleye Runner Kit

It's a pretty easy look-up on the Web.

I have used these lures as well with great success.
I upgrade the lures when I put them together. I use - either triple grip or excaliber hooks when I put them together.

I also use a $2 pair of split ring pliars to put the split rings on with.

I also happened to have an old pair of needle nose, that I gound down and made another pair of split ring pliars. These work even better than the commercial pliars.

Although some of these lures are larger, they have a "perfect " wobble with a slow roll that the eyes find irrestible.

Take care

Do you use the RealImage colors or the normal colors? The RealImage baits look nice.
