I am currently looking at a 1898 side console with a 200 merc EFI. Can anyone give me any info on how they like it or what they think about warrior boats in general. I am looking for a boat that is deeper and will be able to take some big waves. Any info will be helpful.

I'm sure if you gave Tom LaTour a call, he would arrange a ride in one of the pro-staff's boat sometime. Give Tom a call @ 320-963-5005.

I run a Warrior 1890 BT Tiller with a 90 Merc and its a good rig. It is very dry riding in rough water, the only time you get wet is if you have a cross wind blowing the splash back in your face. I have not had any problems with the boat it works well. I have not been in the 1898 so I can not tell you anything about that boat. Hope this helps.

Hey Mille Lacs Guy
What kind of speed do you get with that 1890 BT with the 90 on it. Also is there anything you honestly dont like about it. And finally When you have to run long distances down the lake do you find the tiller uncomfortable.
Thanks for your time

JD, I think I can answer some of your questions. I can get about 38 mph with a full tank of gas, two full livewells, gear and three guys. I run a stainless prop, but I don't know the specifics of the pitch, etc. If there was one thing I don't like about the boat is that it doesn't have a baitwell (its a 98). The new ones have a baitwell. Another thing that is very minor is the knobs for opening the rod lockers, they sometimes stick, but oil remedies this problem. The tiller does not become uncomfortable on longer runs because I have the Pro Tiller System, which is hydrulic stearing. It locks in and you can steer with the hand control, which is mounted next to the trim on the right side of the boat. I would highly recommend the Pro Tiller on the 90 or bigger motors. Warrior came out with a 1890 XP which can have up to a 125 on it, which would be nice for long runs. Where are you located? If you are near the Twin Cities area I could maybe give you a ride in it if you would like. If you have any other questions email at djochum@sehinc.com

If you are thinking about buying Warriors 18 footer rated at
125 HP you may want to check with the USCG first, give them the boats length and transom width, to see if it is over rated. I beleave this boat is over powered by 35 HP and may be subject to a USGS recall. If that happens the owners of these boats may have to repower these boats to comply with USGS.

The 1890 bt xst is rated up to 135 hp and does conform to USCG regs because the boat can not be rigged without the pro tiller steering system. The presence of the steering has the same effect as a steering system on a console boat and raises the the boats rating. In response to the question about 25" transoms Warrior has increased transom hights to 25" on most models for 2002.

Thanks for clarifying that Tim, I've been wondering if the pro tiller was required or not. In a couple years when my 166 BT isn't big enough, I might have to get me one of them 20 footers :)
