I know this is a walleye site, but I need a red and white bass lure called a bass-a-reno. A really good friend of ours lost his favorite lure in the whole world to a wife with an attitude and a strong cast, so now it's in a tree somewhere in northern MN. Any help will be appreciated.

joefish, I too love the bass-o-reno. I have caught numerous walleye using this lure in the spring. The red/white was the best but a frog pattern was also good. I always got mine from BPS. I don't know if they carry them anymore. Also, try the midge-o-reno, a smaller version of the same lure.

I have bought them recently.
You can pick them up a most Big name stores!
i.e. Cabelas, Gander Mountian, Fleet Farm etc.
They are out there!

Bass Pro shops, am not sure if still made by Southbend, probably one of the best wooden plugs ever made, up next to Rapalas. Theres another brand out in plastic now but hard to find.

I did a quick search on the Dogpile search engine and found a few references... the one that seemed to actually have someplace to purchase it was in Rochester MN - someplace called the Bait Box...
Not sure what the policy is on posting links, so I'll err on the side of judgement. e-mail me if you like and I can provide the link, or do a search. Hope this helps.

Luhr-Jensen & Sons put out a special 80th anniversary edition of the classic red and white Bass-Oreno in 1996, commemorating the years since 1916 that anglers have scored with that venerable lure. I bought one for about $18, and have no intention of using it, as it is in a special edition box, etc. To me it is a strong reminder of my Dad, with whom I fished thru the 1970s.
However, I see original Bass-Orenos fairly frequently at swappers meets and sport shows. They are usually in the $5 price range. I still have one in the old frog finish, now mostly peeled and chewed off, that still catches a bass or two each year.
Thanks for provoking good memories and good luck in your search.
