View Full Version : Prop Help 202 Crestliner/ 200 Opti
What is the prop recommednation of the guys that have the 202 Crestliner? I have a 21" 4 blade Trophy with the holes open and get prop blowout at 5200 RPM's. Any help would be appreciated!

I have had several props on my 2000, 202 and am having a real problem: 1) I had a severe left list -- factory fixed by authorizing dealer to install trim tabs -- PROBLEM: the trim tabs fix some of the list, not all; but, now my motor cannot trim out properly without overspinning my prop -- I need more motor in the water. 2) I spun my hub on a 19; replaced with a 17, works better, but sucks air because I again -- can't get enough motor in the water (at least that's my feeling). And -- I still have some port side list. I weigh upwards of 350 lbs, if anything the list should be starboard. The dealer (Magnum Marine) tried his best to help me out. If the boat goes back to the factory, I will be without a boat for two or three months. I think Crestliner ought to replace it just for the troubles I've had with this NEW BOAT. Sorry, I'm a little bitter right now. I have only recently been boating again after a lengthy boat-at-dealer period of Crestliner trying to figure out what to do about my boat. None of the solutions were good so far. I have been around boats for many, many years. My gut feeling is the motor cannot tuck under enough for giddy-up and out enough for full power without sucking air no matter which prop you use.
Art, it almost sounds to me that your motor might be mounted crooked... I'm guessing they checked, but you might want to do some measuring yourself just to check and make sure.
JS - not sure why your Trophy would be doing that, but if you can try a Hi-5 21" just to see, it might be worth it. If that blows out there is most likely a prob with how the motor is mounted (height).
Good luck both of you,

I'm surprised that your prop is blowing out at 5200 rpm's. The only thing that I can think of is that you need more tip cupping. For example with my 1800 Pro V when I was breaking it in I ran the stock aluminum prop. It would blow out in the most casual of turns, don't even think of trimming the motor up, it would blow out. After the break in was done I talked to John Janecky of Pro-Pellors in Burlington, WI. He is without question the best prop guru in our area if not the whole mid-west. Anyway, he had me run test with lots of props. He said I would probably run best with a Trophy Plus 21p and I agreed. He modified one for me, knife edge, thinned blades and more tip cupping. I have a Panther jack lift on my Lund and since I've put on that prop I can not blow it out, even with the engine fully trimmed and jacked up several inches, it will not blow out in the hardest of turns (and I've tried :-)). You might consider this.
