Most anglers credit there fathers, uncles, brothers, or grandfathers for instilling a strong interest in fishing. True my grandfather and other male influences were instrumental, but my Mom she is the true hardcore in my family, even by my standards.
It has been a tradition to go fishing on mothers day with Mom for as long as I remember, also a gift of a new fishing rod or tackle is a given. Mom just loves to fish, she takes it serious too, ya just gota love a Mom that digs fishing!
I have learned a lot from her and the one thing she instilled in me was if ya want to feel a bite keep the rod in your hands, she seldom miss's a bite or a fish.
Happy Mothers Day MOM, and to all you fishing Mom's out there who fish on Mothers Day, you go girl! Catch a piggy!
And MOM, Thank's for all the fishing trip's and the gift of fishing you shared with me!

Whether river, lake, or ocean, my mother has always had a strong aversion to each. One time I was able to take her for a ride in my boat for about 10 minutes. She has never fished, never cleaned a fish, never cooked a fish, and only very rarely ever eaten fish. But she never stopped me, my brother, or Dad from going fishing.
Happy Mother's Day.

Mom was never too big on going out fishing but she never complained about the week long fishing trips we took for the family vacation. She did love to see some fish come home. Always wanted to cook us our catch, and she genuinely enjoyed it too. Happy Mothers Day!

B.E., like you, I had a mom that was really into fishing. Her favorite way to fish was with a long "Cane Pole" off of the bank somewhere (this was probably due to her fear of drowning, so getting her in a boat was a major feat). She instilled a great passion for trying to outwit our fishy friends in me when I was very young. One of the first nursery rhymes I ever learned from her as a small child was "fishy fishy in the brook, won't you please bite my hook". So when I started fishing tournaments in the 80's it came as no surprise to her, and I always promised her I'd win a major tournament for her someday.
Well time ran out for us. Mom passed away unexpectedly at Christmas time a little over three years ago, and I'll be visiting her grave at the cemetary on Sunday morning with a single Rose, and a cup of coffee just like I used to do when she was with us.
This is not meant to be a downer to everyone, in fact I'm now more determined to win that tournament for her than ever. The point I want to make is every single day of life is precious, live it to the fullest, but please take a moment out to remember the woman who gave it to you!
Happy Mothers Day mom! I love you.....

LAST EDITED ON May-11-01 AT 07:38AM (CST)[p]I will be on the road working with the DNR all weekend & I bet more then a few of us here will be on the lakes too during this MN walleye opener weekend, so better early then not at all was my thought.
