I have a late 1940s or early 1950s 2.5 H P Johnson motor that needs a new gasket on the top of the carb. I have been unable to find a source. Any Ideas? I made the mistake of storing it without removing the gas. It accumulated some gunk in the tank and also in the carb. I removed the top of the carb and of course it now leaks. The gasket is in very good shape yet. Any way to rejuvenate the old gasket?

It's probably just a fiber gasket and you can buy gasket material from any # of sources starting at a Napa auto parts store or Fleet Farrm. Just trace it out cut it out and walla a new gasket. Be sure and tell them it is for a carb because it will be oil and gasoline resistant material you will need.
Otherwise you can get some black permatex and use that but the next time it is removed it will have to be scrape off and a new gasket used then.

Hope this helps

What Pitts said. I can't begin to tell you how many gaskets I have cut out over the years. It works and it works WELL! Use "razor" knives when you do it, like EXACTO (sp?) knives.

The serial # is 865065 The model # is either HD25 or 2.5 OBC
both #s are on the motor.
Thanks for your help

The HD-25 is the model number used for 2.5 hp Johnson Outboards from 1946-1950. Serial 865065 was built in 1950.
