View Full Version : Lund Alaskan
About 2 weeks ago someone was on here talking about his Alaskan 18 and his buddies Alaskan 16.I am interested in 16ft but can't figure out why Lund rates it for only 4 people. The 1650rebel is rated for 6 and the Alaskan looks like it has more room.Could you answer this ? for me?Also what are your thoughts on this boat? Should I go with the Alaskan 16 or 18?I am talking tiller here. Thanks
You really have to ask your self "what waters do I fish"? I have owned a 16' but more often than not i was getting to my fishing spots and then as the day went on the wave action and wind would push me off the water. Or sometimes i'd leave my house drive an hour only to discover the water too rough for my 16'. I am in the process of getting an 18' with a 70hp Suzuki. I didn't go with the Lund, I went with a Misty River. The Misty is 8" wider and is almost a foot deeper. I'm really looking forward to getting the whole package together. I have nothing against Lund i just wanted the biggest 18' plain jane for my money.

I cant figure that out myself,,the weight capacity and HP rating exactly the same in the Alaskan and Rebel-V . If trying to decide between the 2 16 ft boats consider the significant differances: The Alaskan bottom hull gauge is .100" the Rebel-V .080" ,Significant, but not so much considering the weight of these boats unless you plan on repeadedly bangin these around on rocks stumps etc. .080 pretty good and actually pretty hefty for a 600
lb ish boat. The other significant difference is that standard equipment on the Alaskan does not include a livewell, and has vinyl floor instead of carpet. (advantages/disadvantages could be an endless debate). As far as interior room, their dimensions are pretty identical, but the Alaskan "looks" more roomy, because of no livewell,no rear gastank or battery storage,no raised front deck.
The reality is both boats have about the same usable interior room ,,the Rebel-V uses it more efficiantly (in my opinion). As far as number of people ,if going to fish with 3 or more in the boat most of the time, you might want the 18ft. I occasionally fish with 3 in a 16ft Rebel-V ,and though not too bad,I wouldnt want to do it all the time.

Thanks for the input. Can anyone tell me where I could look at an Alaskan? A couple of dealers have told me they don't have them on hand, they usually order them and can take 8-12 weeks.I live in Iowa.Would Starks in Wisc.have them on hand?

Go with the 18 you won't be sorry,i've had mine since May and i love it.Its a tiller has so much room even with 3 people on board.Having the vinyle flooring is great, all you have to do is hose her out,try that with carpet. And can take the big water nice, just got back from a trip for 3 days hit some bigwater one afternoon heading to shore 4 footers. Now all i have to do is get some Moose blood in her this fall.FISH ON.

I had the chance to look at both boats next to each other. Look at the bottoms of the boats - I believe the 16 & 18 foot Alaskans have a much flatter bottom with several external ribs running from the front to the back. At one time I was interested in the 18 Alaskan but now I have decided I would rather have a V bottom.

My above reply was on comparing the 16 rebel V with the Lund Alaskan

FYI you can hose out a carpeted boat also! I do it all the time. I hose out all the fish slime bood, spilled bait, beer pop,etc after a long vacation trip, and it looks showroom new when it drys. You just need pick a nice sunny day to do it,so it drys quick.
