I have a Alumacraft and G3 dealer close to my house and was over looking at boats and got home and it seems that the Alumacraft and G3 are the same boat in their respective brochures with different names. Can anyone enlighten me ? Have G3's been around long ? Quality and reputation ? They seem reasonably priced and that scares me. Any opinions are welcome ! Thanks

Kraut,I bought a G3 160T this year.I looked at a lot of boats trying to decide which one to buy.I have been pleased so far.I've been out on the lake 35 or more days so far and no problems. It had the best layout and features for ME.Two of the three designers from G3 came from Alumacraft. So I have been told.I think G3 has been around from 97-98.Yamaha owns the company.Like skeeter. The closest alumacraft dealer was 50 miles from me and my G3 dealer was 10.I might have gone with the alumacraft if is was closer I don't know.If you compare features to others say lund rebel ,which I was also looking at,it had a lot more for the same price.I have a Yamaha 25 4-stroke on the back.I wish now ,like others told me beforehand, that I went with a 40 or 50 horse.Let me know If you need more detailed info on things I will try to answer them for you.Good Luck on which ever boat you choose.goose925 goose@raex.com

My brother just picked up the HP 190 with a 150 Yamaha. He's had it on the water about a doezen times and he loves it. We took it to some big water up in Canada for a week and it held up really well.
G3 is a new boat. They are owned by Yamaha and are essentially the same as Alumacraft. I don't know what's up, but the dealer really tried to convince my brother to buy a fiberglass boat.
I heard the same thing, that a designer from alumacraft went to G3 and designed the boats and had parts lists, etc. Apparently, he since has returned to Alumacraft... or so I was told last year at a boat show by a rep (VP?) from Alumacraft.
Either way, it is the same basic hull as the Alumacraft (we have the TP175cs). It's a soild hull and rides great.
Now... for my opinion... all our boats so far have had rod storage on the sides, and most aluminum boats still do. Lund and Ranger alum have rod storage in the bow/floor, and that is going to become the standard. I won't buy another boat that does not have rod storage in the bow/floor. Hopwfully Alumacraft will start doing that. I spent about an hour with the Alumacraft rep telling him good and bad about our baot, and he was very receptive, but I saw the new catalog, and they now have a small rod box on the floor on the port side, but they didn't retool the bow - he said that was expensive... They WILL see the light soome day ;)
