Saw this post for Snelling a Crawler Harness:

Snelling a crawler harness. Cut a piece of monofilament 60 inches long and thread one end about an inch through the hook eye to be snelled. Pinch this short tag of line firmly against the hook shank with a thumb and forefinger and wrap the main line eight or ten times around the hook shank. Hold these wraps firmly and then take the end of the main line and pass it back through the hook eye from the opposite direction as before. Hold the hook and wraps firmly until the leader can be pulled tight. Thread the second hook onto the leader and postion it approxiamtely six inches from the first hook. Pinch the line against the hook shank and snell the hook in the same manner as the first. This method of snelling is easy and allows the hooks to be postioned exactly the same distance apart every time

I did this, but my question is "I take the end of the main line and pass it back through the hook eye from the opposite direction, what holds the knot tight?" I can push the line ever so slightly back towards the hook eye and the snell gets slack. What am I missing here??

Thanks, Trophy19!

your not missing anything. It is only the line going through the eye that keeps them from unraveling. Some pros use them this way. Not me!!

I have always used a polomar on the rear hook and snell knots on all hooks forward. Polomar is a better knot but the snell knot makes it easier to vary the distance between hooks. I use leaders up to 10' and would tie them all this long if I pretied them. Let the fish tell you the length for the day and cut off what you don't need.

Run one end of the line down through the eye, and pinch it against the shank of the hook. Run the other end back up through the eye to form a big look with both ends through the eye. Take the long piece coming out of the top of the eye (the one that you ran down through the eye) and wrap it around the shank of the hook 5-8 times. Make sure to wet the line good as you now have to pull the line all through the hook eye. pull on the short tag end sticking out of the top of the hook eye until the line snugs up on the wraps.

For the second hook, just thread it down the line, and then run the other end back up through the eye, and wrap, and pull.

This knot does will not go slack on you, I have used it for years with great success. I don't recall one ever breaking or coming loose.
