BGlenn,

I do have one of the rods and I love it. Perfect for jigging small baits on light line. Before I bought mine, I called Loomis to see what type of blank it was and it is an IMX. Also great for rigging with 1/16 to 1/8 oz. walkers. Good price too! I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you get a chance, pick up the 7ft light walleye spinning. (Not sure of the model#) It is an awesome rod for rigging in shallow water, and also an IMX blank.

It's an excellent rod with great sensitivity. I got one as a gift and liked it so much that I bought another one.

Is it worth the extra money? Oh god, please let's not get that discussion started again. In the right hands, there are situations where it will catch more fish than lesser rods. Are you able to take advantage of that extra sensitivity, and is the ability to occasionally put extra fish in the boat worth $100 to you? Only you can answer that question. Rest assured that there are a lot of fisherman who would be thrilled to get the rod at that price (on the other hand, there are a lot of people who think that paying that much for a rod, no matter how good, is crazy).

My advice is enjoy it. If you don't like it, you can easily get your money back on it by selling it through eBay.

Not only great sensitivity but they become a member of the family. I Have several SJR721 and a few mbr783. All of them I have had for over 10 yrs. This last fall I had an eye come out of my MBR783. Now this rod is 10 yrs. old I sent it back for repair to G-loomis and I got back a brand new rod same #. Also the price in Cabelas was 227.00 I think that was only about a $40. increase in 10 Yrs. If I break it in half they replace it for half price. As long as I don't loose it they will be forever a member of the family. I use other rods for boards and what not but like I told my buddy your're going to spend $25,000 on a boat 35,000. on a Suburban to haul it with and how much on all these trips we take and the closest thing between you and the fish is your rod and reel and you are going to skimp. Well eat my wake.

I have several IMX Loomis fly rods that I use. I know they are outdated but I paid $350+ for them... consider it a deal for a quality rod.

Excellent deal, excellent rod. I've started using the 741 almost more often than the SJR782.

I puchased a pair of WJR 741's a week before the PWT tournament on the Detroit River. I was very impressed with the sensitivity, and "feel" of these rods. What happened next has become something of a standing joke with some of my fellow anglers on the circuit. Day one of the tournament my amateur partner and I were doing quite well. I was jigging two rods from the front when I set the hook with the left rod, put right rod down to fight fish, here "CLUNK" behind me, turn in time to see brand new G Loomis WJR 741 going out of the boat! The extreme desire to go swimming in 38 degree water was finally overcome! Needless to say I made a quick trip to Cabela's that night and purchased a new one, and a new Shimano Sahara reel to go on it! The standing joke my friends tease me about is that you have to offer a Loomis to the "Fish Gods" for a top ten finish! LOL So the point to this long winded reply quite simply was that in such a short amount of time I had become so accustomed to that rod I didn't want to fish without it! Enjoy your rod, and tight lines!
