Has anybody had any success fishing the Rapala Risto Rap for Walleye? If so what size and color have been good producers?
Thanks

Red Dog -
Haven't caught a ton of Walleyes on them - mostly bass and pike. But they have been effective a couple times. Generally we've trolled them fast 2-3 MPH and have had some success on the biggest size. The color that has been the best is the silverish one with the dark green sides and back - i modified the colors a bit with nail polish to make it look like a perch - orange on the bottom with a bit of yellow up the sides and then with a magic marker, some slight stripes on the sides.
Good luck - ebox

I've done well trolling them on Lake of the Woods for walleyes. My favorite color is the Pumpkin in the smaller size. I have one that is really scarred up from hits. Haven't used or caught much on the larger size. Also the silver sided one is good as the previous post said. I just fished Lake Erie and pulled a Risto Rap along with Reef Runners and the new Rapala Taildancer. Did best on the Reef Runners and Taildancers, didn't catch any on the Risto Rap at Erie. Maybe it was the colors and conditions? I've also caught some nice Northerns on the Risto Raps. Except for Wally Divers (my favorite Lake of the Woods plug), I reach for the Risto Raps second. Can't wait to try Reef Runners at L.O.T.W. this year. Good luck.

I haven't had much luck catching walleyes on them. I think it's the walleye repellent paint they use on the risto raps!

I have had decent luck on them fishing on Pepin. The Clown color worked best in #8 or #9 longlining in 15 to 22 feet. Let out line and work it down until you feel it banging on the bottom. They do work better at 1.5 mph or faster. Try them in dark or stained water instead of clearer water. It's the noise they make that makes them work and in clear water when the eyes can see it, it might scare them with the noise. In the darker water they target the noise cause they can't see the lure.
Good Fishing!

Regretfully, I bought a bunch of them when they came out. Never caught one walleye with them. Now I see them in the bargain bins. What do you guys do with a bag of cranks that cost you a lot of money, but don't work? They might look good hanging on a Chrismas tree?

Only caught one walleye with them.
They have, however, been consist performers when fishing for lake trout in lakes in the Gammon and Bloodvein River flowage in NW Ontario.
