Even though my T8 might get to me in time for Christmas, I would like to have all the necessary parts available when it arrives for easy rigging.

I'm going to T my gas line so I don't have to carry an extra tank of gas.

What is the size of the hose or size of the T that I will need for this?

I have the fuel line for the Merc 115, but I imagine the size of the T8 fuel line will be smaller.

Thanks

I plumbed mine off a T just after the fuel water separator. Do yourself a favor & and install Racor a water separator as long as you have the fuel line apart. It'll pay for itself with the first bad gas you get(it usually happens when your traveling...bad timing). (I run a 200hp big block) I used a 1/2 inch brass female T and 1/2 inch thread to 3/8 hose barbs for the main motor. Plumb the straightline of the T to the main motor, the right angle of the T to the T8. Use a 1/2 thread to 1/4 inch hose barb for the kicker. The hose that comes with the motor is plenty long. Make sure you have a priming ball between each motor & the T.

Eric-

KevinA gives good advice. The only thing I would add is to use a thread sealant (pipe dope, etc) intended for gasoline service while assembling the tee.

thanks,

I assumed the pipe dope part, but it's good you mentioned it. As long as we're mentioning extra things...check all the connections for leaks around 5 times & then check them again. Chances are you'll be doing this work in a semi-enclosed space, leaks are a very bad thing. Make sure your battery terminals are covered too.

Eric,

Went through this process this summer, I tried the straight brass T at first and still had the problem of vapor lock or what not with the main engine after running the kicker for awhile. So i installed the T with a selector valve. It works great and was about 23 bucks at west Marine. The other guys had great advice about the pipe dope and correct fittings.

Eric,
Printed on the gas hose to the main motor should be the diameter of the hose. You should determine what diameter the hose is for the kicker is before buying the T. It will not be the same diameter. A Honda outboard dealer should be able to tell you what it is. Planning ahead, if you ever have any intentions of taking the kicker off and using it on a smaller boat, get a T that allows you to remove that gas line while not effecting the main. I plan on using mine on a friends 12 foot alum and can remove the kicker motor and fuel line, brass plug the T and still not effect the gas line to the main motor.

Sucks about the P-low tourney, if they open the lake this weekend, I'm headed there Sunday. If they send me the tourney money, I'll have an extra beer or two (on you of course, with your entry fee).

For brass Tee's use Teflon tape as pipe dope if not used correctly could end up in your carbs.

Art/Co is right on with the caution about the teflon. If not used correctly teflon can end up were is doesn't belong.
