I am looking at a used 2001 Suzuki 4 stroke 60 and would like to hear what people think. After reviewing a number of older messages on 4-strokes, it seems like the response for these motors has been pretty favorable. I am pretty confident in the Yams and the Hondas, but I had not heard much about the Suzuki. One item I noticed is that the 60hp is fuel injected, which has been said is better for cold weather starts. I am absolutely interested in this because the boat will be used and stored in northern Minnesota through November 15th. Can anyone confirm that this is true? Thanks in advance for your help.

I bought a Suzuki 4-stroke 60 about six weeks ago and love it so far. Have heard plenty of good about them from others, too. One downside, however, is a small dealer network.

Just about done with my second season on a 2000 70 Suzuki--Evinrude version. Change the oil, add some gas (not much needed), go fishing. It has been a great motor.

I have a 2000 model 70 horse Suzuki and can not say enough good things about this motor.
Your question about cold weather starting.
When I bought it in January of 2000, I was very anxious to try it out but the lake was froze. When it went out, I launched the next day. Water temp was 39 and air temp was just above 40, last day of Feb.
Brand new motor and new boat, backed down ramp and motor started first time it turned over. Never misses a beat when cold. I have never had it die on me even when cold.
Next week I went fishing and fellow with a new Honda launched about the same time. His died several times before it warmed up and kept running.

AJ-

The ONLY negative I've heard regarding Suzuki 4-Strokes is, as Jay mentioned, the small dealer network.

You may also want to make sure the motor was broken in properly and had it's 20 hour service inspection from a TRAINED AND CERTIFIED Suzuki Technician. The tech where I bought my Suzuki didn't know anything about four strokes let alone electronic fuel injection. I now take mine 2 hours North to a guy who knows what he's doing. Great, powerful engines though.

Thanks to everyone so far for their responses. This very helpful.

KP: Would you mind telling me where you brought your motor for service?

My neighbor has the 70 hp. What a beautiful motor.Unaffected by cold weather. Starts right up each time and is so quiet you think it isn't running. Downside, only two dealers in MI. When he took it back for the twenty hour check they didn't even have a shop manual yet for his motor! If you have a good reputable dealer the motor is top notch.

AJ,

Send me an e-mail at AKPBrown@aol.com and I'll be happy to share my experiences with certain Suzuki dealers here in the midwest. I hate to bash anyone in public that haven't really done me wrong, just didn't have the knowledge or kind of service you'd expect.

If I get screwed, I'll tell all. Luckily that hasn't happened. If I'm really impressed, I'll tell all too. The Suzuki dealer that impressed me the most is Ox-Bo Marine in Juneau, Wisconsin. Chad really knows his stuff and has exceptional pricing. Especially on new previous year models if he still has them. Well worth a 2 hour drive for me.
