I currently have a Lund 1650V Rebel SS with a 50hp 4stroke Merc that I enjoy fishing out of but I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with the 1675 Explorer this year and I am looking to upgrade to the console model with a 90HP 4stroke Merc or Honda.

I wonder if any 1675 Explorer owners out there can help me out with a couple questions relating to 90HP 4strokes on this model.

1) What can I expect for top speed?
2) What would idling speed be?
- I know my 4stroke Idle's low and I don't need a kicker but I do use a small drift sock to troll below 3mph.

Thanks for your help.... and LUND4EVER ;>

I was told by a Mercury Rep that the 90 4/s motor was really a 100 hp, but they had to give it a 90 label so it will fit 90 and above hp boats. I have a 1800 Fisherman (new this year), but the 1675 Explorer and 90 4/s was what I wish that I would have gotten. With the lake levels being so low, you can put that 1675 in about any water something that I can't do with mine. Good Choice.....Glen

I'm not sure about top speed but my brother-in-law just purchased a 135Hp Honda 4-stroke and it is extremely quiet and trolls great. The problem I have heard about Honda is they are supposedly "doggy" compared to other motors. Now my brother-in-law has a new Pro-V 1800 so maybe the boat is just too big for the motor. It does push the boat 40mph. I own a Merc 25HP 4-stroke and my dad's 40HP and we both love ours. Let me ask you something, why a 90HP on the Explorer? I was looking at one for next year and I was looking at putting a 75HP 4-stroke and was wondering if that would be too little power?
Thanks

I have a 1675 Explorer SS. I have a Yamaha 80 4 Stroke. The best GPS speed I have gotten was 41 mph. That must have been under Ideal conditions because generally I get 37-39 mph. That is when I am alone in the boat. I have no real complaints however if I was to get the same boat again I would change just a couple of things:
1. I would get locking storage compartments.
2. I would go with a tiller model. I am 6'1" and it gets pretty cramped sitting in the seat for long periods of time. Also makes back trolling very difficult.

The boat is very roomy and stable even in rough water. I am overall very happy.

Glen,

That's the first I've heard of that 90 being a 100 story. Have you ever heard anything about Merc not actually making the 4 strokes themselves?!? I heard from a questionable source that they OEM them from Yamaha?!? Say it isn't so!!!

I too am woried about water levels and clearance. My 1650V Rebel doesn't need much water to float, about as much as my old 14ft Lund tiller and I'm hoping with the 1675 and the wider hull it won't take too much more than my new boat. I tend to fish lakes up here in Canada with no launches (and no names for that matter when I go WAY up North) which is why I don't want to get anything over 17ft.

Nevin,

I would always go with the biggest HP you can get with the boat. It's nice to have that power on tap when you have to get off the lake quick. Also, most 75 4strokes are essentially 90's with different carb settings and a lower rev-limiter so if you're paying for the weight of the engine block anyway.... so why not?

Pherris,

I can get 53kph (33mph) out of my 50/4 on the 1650V Rebel and I've heard from a Marina that they heard from someone else - yada, yada, yada, that you could hit 50mph with a 90/2 on the 1675 - That's not too shabby if the 90/4 can do the same.

Will this rig fit into a garage with a 9ft door width and 21 ft depth?I really like this setup but am not sure if I could really squeeze it in.

It should fit fine. I have a swing toung on my trailer and from the outside of the motor to the swing it is just about 19 feet. Hieght will not be a problem at 9feet.

No it will not fit fine. Trust me I know! When I got the 1675 last fall I had a nightmare backing it into my 9' wide garage door. The trailer used is a Mr Pike, so it is wide, you only have about two inches on each side. Remember you have trim on the garage door. This spring I put in a 10' wide door now it's great!

The Merc 75, 90 & 115 four strokes use Yamaha powerheads. I have a Merc 75 and love it.

Larry makes a good point. I mistakenly thought the 9 feet was the height but that would not make much sense either. My trailer is a shore Lander I have a 3 car garage so I never even thought of width. Sorry.

Pherris,

With your 80/4, how slow can you troll? I'm hoping the wide IPS hull will slow down the boat so I don't have to throw on another 50lb kicker + rigging.....

The slowest I can get it troll going forward is 1.9 mph I can get it to slow to about 1.6 or so if I drop my anchor. I have an electric anchor on the bow so I can lower it just enough to avoid the bow but still slow things down with out hurting anything. Back trolling about 1.6 Wind and waves will also slow it down too.
