Looking at possibly purchasing a boat with this motor. What do you guys think of this motor. I know that some people have had problems with them, but that seemed to be the later models.

great engine! although the optimax is better on gas and has a few more 'tweaking' options, for the money, the efi is just fine. i had this year's model on my tournament 'wheel boat', which was an 1800 pro v lund. gotta have a merc!

I my self have never owned a Mercury EFI, but all you are buying is a motor with a electronic carb (Throttle body) which is better on fuel then a standard carb. A resort that I go to on Lake of the Woods runs these motors and they get alot of use. They have never had any problems with them and lets face it Lake of the Woods is a big lake and it always seems like you are going 15 miles here and 9 miles there. In my opinion the EFI has been around for a while and it has a good track record and its track record seems better then Optimax. I am not saying the Opti is a bad motor but it has had more problems then the EFI. But they seem to have all the bugs worked out of both them now. The EFI I think would be a good choice

I bought a new 2000 EFI 150 with my Starcraft Pro-Elite 2000 and the 2nd tank after, the 4 th cylinder scorched due to a failed oil injector. My dealer ( Wilson Marine in Brighton Mi) had me back on the water 10 days later with the whole top half of the motor replaced from Merc. Since then it has ran flawlessly. Easy starts, quick throttle responce and decent on gas. If your buying from a dealer make sure to get the scoop on thier service dept. When I boughr my rig I didn`t think it was that necesary until I had my problem. Glad I went with mine. I would recomend this motor. Good luck.

I have 96 150 EFI, it has been good motor. I fish at allot of different Altitudes so the EFI is the way to go for me. The only problem I had was the strarter went out last year, 5 years of service. It is a proven motor and I have not heard any thing bad about it.....
