I am looking at a Center Console boat with a 150 HP Johnson that was used mainly in saltwater. Just wondering what I should be looking for on the motor that would suggest any problems from the saltwater.I did notice some brown buildup around the head gaskets.Would appreciate any help.
Thanks

How old is the engine? When an engine is used in salt water it's only good for 7-10 years. After that, expect a lot of expensive repairs because of corrosion.

The problems with a salt water outboard are in areas that are not openly visable. I would take it to a reputable outboard mechanic and have them check it out. The corrosion/build up caused by the salt water internally can bring you to needing a new powerhead. If this motor does not have a built in flush port, I would advise approaching this motor with caution....
