Kidney Smasher

I have a Merc 200HP Optimax with the smartgauge.
On my last trip on Sunday I noticed that the smartgauge was freezing up every once in a while. For instance say I was at idle and it would register 550rpm, then when I increased throttle it would stay at 55O although the engine RPM was increasing. Then after a couple of minutes or so it would begin registering again. It did this on all settings, RPM, Temp, Fuel, etc.
My question is could this be from the cold temperatures of late or I recently removed a 350A from my dash. In pulling the transducer cable through the gunnel wall it pulled kind of hard, might I have loosened a connection or nicked a wire to the smartgauge. Most of the time this gauge did work fine during my trip Sunday and I have never had this problem ever, not a real big deal but annoying.
Thanks for the insight.
