First I would like to thank the a*&^%le that stole my rollers off my trailer, while I was out fishing, for pretty much wrecking my opening day. But thanks to the folks a Highbanks Resort on Fish Lake for helping me out. Sure it only took me 3 hours of running around to find everything I needed to fix it, but the worst part was after I was done working on my trailer and was going to run back and pick up my boat,(in a hurry) I must have failed to properly hook up because on my way home my boat trailer bounced off the hitch ball and like a dummy I stepped on the brakes so now I need a new door for my topper as well!!! (my fault, I know!)
But sunday was better.
Thanks to the good folks at Highbanks, if you are ever in Duluth and want to fish a nice walleye lake, stop in there.
My brother in-law said"fishing can sure be relaxng" my reply was, "not the way I do it!"
ha ha
I hope everybody had a safe opener!

I hear ya....
Got to the ramp Saturday morning early and all the people that got out at midnight came back to flat tires. I counted 18 vehicles and many of those had multiple tires flat. I dont know what kind of a$$hole thinks this is funny but I spent the next hour giving rides to the nearest station. HaHaHa....

It really has to make one wonder why people would do these kind of things. Stealing the rollers off a trailer, and flat tires. Sounds like harrasment verses need for rollers or air for that fact. Next time have someone monitor the launch area, kind of like spying. If they return and continue their harassment call the law and hopefully they'll end up behind bars, where they belong.....

I'm with vetspet - sounds more like activist antics rather than other fishermen. If it happened to me, I'd be tempted to stake out the ramp one night to find a repeat offender.
It has animal rights extremist all over it. They pulled that crap on some guys on Lake Erie a few years ago that were duck hunting some leased fields. The bad thing was the truck that got the most damage was a Burb from the east coast. Welcome to the midwest. I'd like to be there sometime when those pansies meet up with the guy who owns that stuff. Pitty the fool that screws with a guys truck who has a bad day on the water.

You got that right, I've entertained the thought of fishing only within site of my trailer!!!
I don't think it was peta wackos, just someone who didn't want to pay for a hard to find roller.
All of the dealers are telling me that they don't normally stock this roller.
I'm usually pretty trusting, but not so much anymore.
Maybe I should get a watch dog for my trailer !

I personally have never had any problems while parking in a ramp lot, but I know that that lots of stuff is stolen. I have a friend who came in from fishing the St. Louis River in Duluth, Mn and found the bumpers and fenders of his truck missing. Our stuff is sitting ducks, but what can we do?

We have this go on in NW Ontario as well. You cannot get away from it it seems. We know our areas and the vehicles that are regulars. All the boys take down license plates of new or strange vehicles. We had a vandalism case last year and we gave the OPP the plates of the strange vehicles. We commonly leave vehicles and go up lake for 3 or four days. They were talked to by the Police. No charges but at least these guys know someone is watching. Other than that or stay home you have to grin and bear it.
On another note a few of the boys have pasts of settling disputes with their fists. I have a feeling even though they have grown out of that and seen the light it might just happen if someone was fooling with their equipment.

Jimbo2,
Sorry to hear of this:-(, I know how you felt. Two years ago I was out on Namakan/Kab for four days and came back to the lot only to find my truck had been keyed the entire length of passenger side. Made me feel sick. In filing a report with the park service they said they had not had alot of problems at this ramp (Ash river) but at the rainy lake ramp broken out windows/toppers and "keying" were not uncommon on weekends. What a useless act. Hope the rest of your season is more enjoyable than opening day. And yes, the folks at highbanks are good people. Always willing to help out. Good Fishin, maybe I'll see ya on the river sometime.

Personally, I wish they would have just taken the whole trailer!!! I need a new one!
This is a first for me. I've always been a trusting soul at that launch. It probably is nobody from around our area, at least I hope so.
It seems there are a few of us Duluth guys on this board, we should have our own get-together.
Good luck.
