The kids workshop will be held on Thursday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Ortonville School Commons.

Once again there will be several activities from knot tying and casting to jig tying and fish filleting. The workshop is free and open to kids of all ages. Last year we had over 100 kids alone attend the Big Stone event.

If there are any fishermen who will not be able to help out, but have new or used equipment to donate, Dan and Steve Bodinger have offered to accept donations on Wednesday night. They will be staying at the Big Stone Motel. --Thanks to Juls for giving me some items for the kids at the last Team Walleye.

***If you are bringing your family, there will be a kids fishing day put on by local organizations on Saturday at the Big Stone Refuge***

This past Saturday we held a kids workshop in conjunction with the Team Walleye tournament at Petenwell, during the weigh-in. A special thanks goes out to Steve Szabo of Il. who immediatley lent a hand to help secure the future of the sport.

I always like to tell a story--this time it's of a 3 year old boy named Jake. He did not know how to cast. I tried teaching him, but he wasn't quite catching on to the whole don't let go of the button until you throw thing. All of the sudden a butterfly went in front of us and Jake instantly took off after it. So much for the casting lesson. A short time later Jake came up to me and asked if he could try again. I took him over by the casting area and let my dad have a shot at teaching him. Later, as I was standing near the casting area, a plug whizzed by me like a bullet. I glanced at the kid, then did a double take...there was little Jake casting away, like a pro!!!! Watch out for this little guy! I think we created a monster!!!
