I would steer clear off a smoker if you plan on fishing bigger water, they flat out won't hold up. Or else you'll find yourself replacing rivets!

I disagree, I have a 20' Sylvan and it'll handle any water I have the balls to tackle. You can beat any boat to death in rough water including glass and welded boats. It's the nut behind the wheel that destroys more boats that poor manufacturing. The Smokers hull is .120, Compared to other major names with .080 or .100. If your looking at smashing your kidneys then buy the best warrantee, if you want a great boat with a great price tag, then the Smoker might be your ticket...

I have a Legend, made by Smokercraft and have no complaints. The hull holds up great. I use it in Lake Ontario and Lake Erie . Handles 3 foot waves with ease. The hull on mine is .100. The hull design gives great top end speed as well. Turning quickly at over 40mph can be a challenge, but the only reason to make a quick turn here is to avoid jet skiers. And well....they're only jet skiers.
yuh huh

You flat out cannot pound the snot out of a welded or rivited tin boat and expect it not to leak. period. Smoker/phazer etc sell a ton of boats and they all do not fall apart.
Stay awaye from fazer had lots of probs. Thats why not made any more. Smoker,Sylvan,Monark, and Starcraft all owened by Doug Smoker and co.Buyer Be Ware on anything that Smoker Makes.

I have to respectfully disagree. I am on my third Smokercraft - updating from small to larger models. My boat is seldom used in rough water although I have a teenager whose friends used it daily the last 2 summers for wakeboarding.
My boats have held up, not leaked and performed as promised. I am satisfied with both the interior & exterior fit and finish. I have always got a good trade in because I took good care of them.

These couple of Smokercraft haters must of been the very few to get a lemon. I am on my second Smokercraft and my 182 Ultima can handle the 3 to 5 footers we get in the river here. I have ran that boat at nearly 40 MPH in 3 footers and it's still in one peace, my kidneys paid dearly but the boat is fine.
Lunds or Genmars are not 20% to 30% better then Brunswicks but they are priced that way.
Catch a big one this fall
Keep releasing them all

I have a smoker and love it. It has a thicker hull than the same size Lund and it was less expensive with more bells and whistles.
Bob, I know Sylvain is owned by Smoker but what is your source on Monark and Starcraft? I know Monark is made by Starcraft but Starcraft is a much older company than Smoker.
I sell all four brands, and Starcraft-Monark.to. WE do not sell not one of the boats to day, that ,we talk about, any more, because, Somker will not pay his warry. part of the deal . So Somker dose owen both co. Unless it was sold today. I sell one and own a Lund, Why you ask the money is Good.

whoa Bob - your in bad need of a spellchecker!
NO Maddog I do not drink, sometimes I think I should. Its hard to make a living in to days world, but if selling boats is the way to go, then so be it. But if you get to know maybe something you should not in the boating or Fishing World Why not pass it on .Boats are one thing I know after all I have been doing it for 28yes. Who wouldknow then an OLD boat Salesman who was on the ground floor of Walleye Fishing in 1985 ,and to be there on some imput on todays Walleye boats.WELL thank Us OLD Timers FOR YOU have TODAY>>>>
I would go with the Smoker. I've got a 93 Smoker Fazer 17-2 and love it. Take it to Canada every year and has taken some serious pounding. It has held up just fine. It is set up great and my friends love fishing out of it. I would not hesitate to buy another when the time comes.

Smokers are great if you don't mind driving around with your motor trimmed all the way down to stop the porposing. You will think your in 3-footers when it is really calm if you try to trim your motor up!

Just finishing my 3rd season with a 178 Ultima and haven't seen any of the problems that non smoker owners claim. Its been dry(no leaks)and seems to handle the bigger water I've been through (Erie and Lac Saul)very well. I think it has been alot of boat for the money.
