Just curious does anyone know why Lund does not make their own trailer? I know Ranger builds their own trailers and Lund is a Genmar company as well. I've seen a few posts where people are not happy with their trailer who own Lund boats. I've owned/still own Ranger, and Xpress bass boats and both have high quality trailers and have never had a problem with any of them. Whats the deal?

I own a lund and I don't no why they they don't build trailers but I can only guess. I look at Ranger as a specialty type boat meaning they are like custom built and along with that is the quailty. They don't build nearly as many models so that makes it easier to build a trailer under there boat. The closes thing Lund has to a custom trailer is the Eagle and I don't think they offer it on all there models, just the bigger boats. T-Mac could probably give you a better explanation.

bassandmuskienut,
I don't have an authoratative answer but my guess would be that there is really not enough profit in each trailer to justify them adding new facilities/staff. Lund probably wants to keep doing what they do best,,,build boats. Eagle trailers are custom built for each and every model boat (including Lund) and are fine excellent trailers.

Trucking, for one thing. Lund trucks are not able to haul boat w/ trailer packages in volume. They would have to totally change their whole delivery system. Pricing is another. Pretty hard to compete with trailer companies that sell trailers to dealers who sell scores of different brands of boats around the country. If you only built them for Lunds, you'd be building a comparatively small number of trailers, thus your cost per unit would be higher. That would make your boat/motor/trailer package more expensive, and thus, less competitive. On top of that, Lund would have to construct another large building to build trailers in, which would be very costly.
Another factor is labor force. There are only so many able bodies available in and around New York Mills.
Last...it would entail welding! GAWD!!!! ;-)
Just Kidddddddinnng on the welding..
