I have a 100 horse four stroke Yamaha outboard and for the most part I am extremely pleased with the motor. I did notice a high pitched squeel that occurred occassional about mid summer, and I wanted to know if anyone can advise me on this. It seemed that after runs of fifteen miles or so, when I would pull up to my destination and put the motor into neutral, this very slight squeel would occur, but not all the time. Twenty minutes later I would jump to another spot of a shorter distance and everything sounded fine.
Back at the driveway when I put the muffs on, I never heard a thing. My dealer doesn't have a clue. It doesn't seem like anything major, but I don't want to have it turn into anything major.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Also, I run a 1775 Pro-V. Anyone with the same setup let me know what you have for a prop. Mine is okay, but I'd like to be able to get out of the whole a little quicker. I need to stay with aluminum due to the rocky waters that I fish.
Thanks for any help.

I have the F80, pretty much the same motor, I only had one such squeal. That is after I spent a lot of time trolling through some pretty thick algea. After a while at higher rpms and in clear water she cleared up. Maybe you have something near your water pump impeller.

p.s. On several occasions my trim/tilt would buzz. Twice this Fall when trimming all the way up my motor would not come back down. I just got it back from service and apparently some valve in the trim/tilt mechanism is sticking. A service bulletin was just issued on that I hear.

Had a high speed squeal in my 2000 90HP Mercury. I took it into the dealer for a 20 hour check. It turned out to be a rod bearing. Mercury replaced the short block for free and it was out of warrany by 5 months.
