What's the difference between the 7520 and the 7420 besides price and a wider screen on the 7520?

Only difference I could find was that the 7520 has 240X320 pixels while the 7420 has 240X240. You already mentioned the screen size and price.
Could be more but not that I could find.

All is the power, price and screen. I think you can not link the 7420. I am not forsure!

The 7520 has a wider screen, a different back lighting that is awesome, and the GPS upgrade can plug right in to the 7520. I have a 7420 on my bow and a 7520 on my console. Both do an excellent job of showing fish and structure, the 7520 is just more unit and worth the extra $$ in my humble opinion.

Doc, If the wider screen and backlighting weren't important to you, and you had a gps you were very happy with, would you save the $200 and go with the 7420? Thanks.

I run both units side by side also the 7520 is easier to see than the
7420, after you use the 7420 for a while you get use to it,other than that they both outperform my old X 85 hands down, I would go to a dealer and punch the buttons side by side, after I got the 7420 I kind of wished I had gotten the 7520, so I waited and got both the 7520 and motor when they went on sale this fall.

The 7420 does just as good a job of showing fish and structure as the 7520. Based on your question I would say that if I was making that decision based on putting that unit at the front of my boat, yes. Personally,if I was making that decision for a console graph, I would have to think a bit harder. Wider screem makes for better view and review when covering water with the outboard looking for fish. It also gives you better split screen capabilities and easier menu controls with the larger key pad area. Now are those things worth the $200 to someone looking for a unit to mark fish? The Pinpoint sonars in general are a good choice for their many "abilities", network, upgrade, plus great customer service and a 24 month warranty. I believe that the 7420 is a great unit. I have one on the bow of my boat and even have it rigged so that I can use it for ice fishing. I can easily see a 1/8 oz jig in 40 feet of water (at less than 40% sensitivity) and with my flashchart running at 60 pixels a second, see the fish move right in on it in real time.
Good Luck and Good Fishing,
Joel

Doc, What transducer are you using with your Pinpoint? I was thinking of doing the same but having a hard time coming up with a self leveling transducer?
Are you fishing from an ice house? I am concerned about Pinpoint LCD screen getting to minus 10 F and ruining screen. Any experience on how cold the screen can get without damaging it?

I am rigging a new boat and can't find anything on Pinpoint other than a poor web site. I live in upstate NY and there are no dealers here, so I'd like to get some more info and help! Where can I get info on the GPS add in? I have been using the Lowrance 350 on my old boat, and a buddy from MN said I'd be crazy to get anything but Pinpoint. Where can I get good specs, find info on the GPS, and where do you suggest I purchase them?
Thanks,
Peter

Doc, what kind of boat are you running your Pinpoint on? I running mine on a Lund I think I have got the transducer set up pretty good, where do you run your flashchart settings at? suppresion and Sensitivity to get a good screen. One other thing those of you thinking about getting a Pinpoint vs something else,I was running a X 85 on my dash and 7420 on the bow with both units running at the same time going accross a lake a hump on the bottom would show up as tiny bump on the X 85 and the 7420 actually showed the whole thing, after that I bought a 7520. If you have Gander Mtn in your area they are closing them out, I picked up a 7520 for 399.00. Also I have a new transducer for any one looking for one heck of a deal.

Hi Jim,
Already have a new Frabill shack and Jiffy just sent me a drill. I guess there is an effort of sorts to getting me to finally throw off the "ice fishing jinx" tag. Looking at going to Mendota this year and North Dakota for perch...really!!! So if the fishing sucks for any period of time in those places, you'll know I was there.
Actually ice fishing is good for me because when I fall down and smack my head, my hip doesn't hurt so bad for awhile, and laying on the ice reduces the swelling pretty good.
Talk to you soon Jim,
Doc
