I'm looking into a position based in or around Gillette, WY. How far to the nearest walleye? Seems like there are a lot more choices down towards Casper. Anyone have experience living or fishing out that way? My atlas says the entire state population is less than 500,000!! I vacation every summer in W.Montana and like lonely places. I think Gillette is in the "banana belt" too. Any other good hunting, fishing, hiking and camping opportunities within two hours of Gillette?
Thanks for any and all feedback.

Keyhole reservoir is about 45 miles to the west. Without a doubt one of the best walleye holes in the state. For more information on it take a look at http://www.keyholewalleye.com It is the website for the local walleye club there, Northeast Wyoming Walleye Association. Glendo Res is also about 140 miles south, another fabulous resource! Another website for you http://www.wyomingwaters.com
Black Hills will also offer you great whitetail deer and turkey hunting too.
Since I don't live in that area, that's about all the info I can give you. I live about 4 hours away in Cheyenne, Wy. I am heading that way this weekend to enjoy some of those walleyes though.

I lived in Gillette for 17 years and am now in Cheyenne. Previous post is correct re: Keyhole, except it is about 45 miles east not west. Black Hills are about an hour drive east and Bighorn Mtns. are about an hour west. Bighorns have elk, deer, bear and mtn. lion. Also have Lake DeSmet which is a trout lake. Glendo and the Casper area walleye lakes are about a 2.5 hr. drive. Oahe and Ft. Peck about 6 hrs. Nice town to raise a family. Not much for social life, but a great outdoors oriented town.

I live in Gillette now. It is a great place to live. You can go to keyhole which is 45 miles west. There is great mule deer and antelope hunting within 30 miles of gillette. The antelope outnumber the people in campbell county. Theres great Turkey and Whitetail hunting in blackhills which is a couple of hours away. Great mule deer, elk, moose, deer and bear hunting in the bighorns also a couple hours away. There is even some pheasent hunting 10-15 miles south of Gillete. Great place to live for the sportsmen.

I forgot to mention keyhole has some of the best pike fishing in the country. IT also has a lot of crappie walleye bass and Catfish.
