Well it is time to put the boat away for the year with the forecast for this area of temps in the
teens and snow on the way.
I normally put Yamaha lower unit oil in my 9.9 and my 90 horse, but it a pain to get a hold of. I
was thinking of switching to Merc lower unit lube as it is available in my town. WOuld this
switch be advisable?
Thanks for the advice in advance and have a safe and jolly holiday season.

I wouldn't hesitate to run the Merc lower unit fluid in the two motors you mention.

If you are going to switch to Merc oil, use the High Perf gear oil,(blue stuff) its much better for just a little bit more money, than the Merc "premium Blend" (brown stuff) . But here is a tip, before changing over to a differant brand or type, regardless of what you change to. After you drain the lower unit, fill it with the new stuff, but keep filling as it overflows out the top vent holes, to flush out the old stuff. Then drain it again COMPLETLY,,give it time. Then refill with the new stuff again. This will insure that there is
little or none of the old type of oil, mixed with the new stuff. This will avoid any compatibility issues, and wont mislead you next time you drain it as it may look funky with differant types of oils mixed.
