I am looking for a good spinning reel for my new
St. Croix Avid 6'AS60MLF. Do you have any suggestions? Can't wait to tie-on a Jig. Also how would this rod work for rigging ? Thanks,Jimmy

I have the same rods and have been very happy with the Quantum Energy series. Pretty disposable and the price is where it should be. I like the balance as well.

Try a Pinnacle Dead Bolt Limited DLF30 series. The outfit should balance pretty well. The Pinnacles have 10 B.B. instant antireverse and the smoothest drags I have ever seen. They cost around $95.00. Well worth the extra $$. Also their customer service is really good.

I would definitely go with the Daiwa Emblem X or Z. They are superior spinning reels to anything else I've used, even the Shimano Stradic. I use Shimano baitcasters, and Daiwa spinning reels almost exclusively. If you spent money on an Avid, don't comprimise on the reel if you can afford it. The tolerances are real tight on these reels, there is no play in the drive-train, and the drag is one of the best I have used. It never freezes up on me. The X series is about $70 cheaper, and quite honestly, I don't feel a $70 difference between them. So I would go with the Emblem X, which should be around $130. The Z is at the $200 mark.
Enjoy your new rod, and good fishin'

Good call on the Daiwa's Tyler. I have a Daiwa X model spinning reel and it is easily the best reel that I've ever had. I caught an 18-20 carp on it yesterday (a real beast) and the drag worked beautifully. Really solid reel.

I too had a good 20+ lb carp in light river current last year on a 2000 series. I was using the 6'6" M Fast tip Avid. Man, was that a great fight, and the reel was amazingly solid, and the drag held up without any hanging whatsoever. This reel continues to perform well on my main species, smallies. I have both the 2000 and 2500 series and just love them!
