Looking at getting a Panther Electro Steer. I have an 18' boat with the only motor being a 50 hp 4 Stroke Mercury. I use this motor to troll and with the aid of a drift sock can get the boat to troll around 1 MHP. Most of my trolling occurs at speeds of 1 to 2.5 MPH (walleye and salmon fishing). Can I use the Panther electro steer to steer my 50 hp for these conditions? I would disconnect it when running at higher speeds.

Mark,

Is your 50hp a tiller? If so, yes, the Panther shoud be able to handle turning it at slow trolling speeds. If there is a steering cable atttached to it, I wouldn't even attempt it---too much force needed to turn the steering cables/wheel.

Yes it is a tiller, Guess I missed mentioning that in the first post

Lassig,
Yes it will turn the big engine. Don't forget to disconnect it when you run. It would not be a safe move to steer at speeds above trolling with the unit!

It will move up to a 125hp believe it or not but I was testing one on the larger hp just to see how much torque it would have... no problem.

No more tired arms, now you can fly to the fishing spot.
