I am looking at a 185 tp with a 150 efI and 8 horse four stroke. It comes with dual cable steering. It hydraulic steering worth the extra money?

I had a 150hp in a 1900 standard steering with no kicker and I now have hydraulic on my new boat and I can't really tell the difference. I know that the cable won't freeze up because there isn't one, but I suppose the seals could leak in the future. As long as you are buying such a nice boat motor you might as well get it. At least it won't kick back on you........

Curt,
If you search the archives you will find several postings regarding whether or not to purchase hydraulic steering. Most people favor getting it, particularily on larger motors (130 + hp). You can search the archives for the subject.
Myself, I do not have in on a 175, I wish I would have gotten it. But I am not disapointed without it. It is sort of a luxery item. I would bet the money you spend on it will be returned in resale should you ever sell the boat.
It would have cost me around $700 at rigging time, or around $1200 afterwards.
I would say go for it if it does not break your budget.

I have a 2002 Lund 1800 Fisherman with a 175 Yamaha HPDI VMAX and 8hp 4 stroke kicker coming soon. I had the same question. Most people who replied said it would be nice, but not a necessity. Kind of like having power door locks and windows in your truck. It cost me $600 and I did order it. I am really looking forward to giving it a try! Good Luck!!
